Frequently Asked Questions

Help! I have questions

See below for all of our most frequently asked questions. Should you have any further questions and need support our customer service team are available by email or phone to help you through the whole process.

- How do I pay?

We are only a small independent company and are yet to incorporate a shop into our website. To place your order and pay please contact us and we will invoice you to pay via bank transfer, PayPal, or by cash if you are collecting your kit.

- How long does delivery take?

Provided that the block you have ordered is ready they will be delivered within 1-3 days. Please note that most blocks are made to order and therefore will be a wait. If you need the Kit right away please contact us for availability/ lead time.

- What is the difference between the 'Ready To Grow' and 'Advanced Mushroom' Kits?

The ‘Ready To Grow’ Kit arrives with your fully colonised and ready to begin fruiting, whereas with the ‘Advanced Mushroom Kit’ we provide you with all the individual items you need to start the process from the beginning and colonise your own block. We advise beginners to start with the ‘Ready To Grow’ Kit.

- What is included in the 'Ready To Grow' Kit?

A ‘Ready To Grow’ fully colonised mushroom block, easy to read comprehensive instructions, including a ‘Hints & Tips’ section, and your very own spray bottle to water your mushrooms.

- What is included in the ‘Advanced Mushroom Kit’?

There is 60g of spawn, or a voucher (pending which kit you order), a micron filter mushroom bag with pelleted substrate inside, a spray bottle and a reusable bag seal. If you have the Twin ‘Advanced Mushroom Kit’ you will have 2x 60g of spawn, or a voucher (pending which kit you order), 2x micron filter mushroom bag with pelleted substrate inside, a PVC liner, a spray bottle and 2x reusable bag seal.

- What is the advantage of getting the voucher kit?

The voucher kit is ideal if the kit will not be started straight away as it means the spawn can be sent later, free of charge, as fresh as possible, especially if it is for a gift. It is also a useful gift as it means the recipient is able to choose their own spawn too.

- How much spawn do I need?

Our commercial grade spawn can be used at a 2% spawn to substrate weight ratio (60g to 3kg). Please note, this is while working to and carefully following sterile practices. For hobbyists and novices we recommend at least a 6% ratio (60g to 1kg).

- How long does it take to grow?

‘Ready To Grow’ Kits will fruit mushrooms in 5-10 days, ‘Advanced Mushroom Kits’ will fruit in 20-27 days.

- How many mushroom flushes can I expect?

We guarantee at least one flush but you can expect up to four.

- How do I know the mushrooms are ready to harvest?

The mushrooms are ready to harvest when the edges of the caps are starting to level off, you don’t want them to turn up.

- How do you harvest the mushrooms?

To harvest the mushrooms hold the block and twist the cluster to pull it off. Alternatively use a knife to slice as close to the block as possible, if you choose this method ensure to pull anything left over away from the substrate.

- What is the white powder coming from the mushrooms?

The white powder is mushroom spores, this is nothing to worry about it simply means you have left the mushrooms slightly too long before harvesting them. The mushrooms are still perfectly fine to harvest and use.

- What do I do once I have finished growing the mushrooms?

Once your block is spent and you are finished, recycle the packaging and break the block down outside in a shaded area, under a tree is ideal, and then more mushrooms are likely to grow in that area.

- Are the mushrooms edible?

Yes, all of our kits produce edible mushrooms.

- How do I cook the mushrooms?

You can cook the mushrooms in a range of ways, frying them in butter or oil, boiling them off in water, including them in a dish eg casserole or bolognese as you would a normal mushroom. There are plenty of recipes online and you are welcome to peruse our social media where we regularly post meal ideas that we have created.

- I've lost my instructions, what do I do?

If you contact us we can email you a new set of instructions.
